The Sechelt Library and District of Sechelt offices are temporarily closed to the public after flooding on Jan. 17.

The Sechelt Public Library is closed until further notice due to flooding, the library’s voicemail message said.

Staff at the District of Sechelt office discovered a leaking pipe as they arrived at work on Wednesday morning. By 1 p.m., the restoration company had already come and gone, communications manager Lindsay Vickers said. “Things just need to dry out.”

On the District of Sechelt side, only the front reception area and conference room were affected. Carpets were soaked. The community meeting room was fine, though Vickers said the front of the library — which shares the building — may have some damage. The library is not expected to reopen on Jan. 18.

The District’s reception will be temporarily relocated to a different desk. While the District of Sechelt office will be closed to the public for the rest of the week, Vickers said staff will be available to answer questions by phone or at [email protected].
