No pyrotechnics, yes fireworks at Sea Cavalcade

No boats will be blown up this year at Sea Cav, due to fire restrictions.

This year’s Sea Cavalcade Festival has lost its permit for the pyrotechnics display scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 – but the fireworks display scheduled for 10 p.m. is still happening in Gibsons Harbour.

In the past, the pyrotechnics display has been on a boat in the harbour. Sea Cavalcade Festival chair Conchita Harding was disappointed that it had to be cancelled, but said she understood the concern around fires.

“Everybody likes to see the boat blow up, but they told me no, we couldn’t get the permit due to the weather conditions,” Harding said. “They don’t understand that it’s right on the water – but people might think that a spark or something might get too close.”

Harding said the best places to see the fireworks will be in Winegarden Park, Holland Park or on the government dock in Gibsons harbour.

The pyrotechnics display is the only event that has been cancelled. The Fire Dance Show scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday is still on.

The Sea Cavalcade is an annual summer festival, now in its 46th year. Events are taking place over the weekend of July 25 and 26 in Gibsons.

Things kick off with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. served by the Salvation Army. The pancakes are followed by a parade starting on Park Road, then down Winn Road to Gower Point Road via Gibsons Way.

Multiple events run all weekend. For more information visit seacavalcade.ca
