Man dies in diving accident

A man is dead after a diving accident in Sechelt Inlet Thursday afternoon.B.C. Ambulance paramedics met a red Zodiac transporting the stricken man at the Porpoise Bay dock just before noon and brought him to St. Mary's Hospital.

Ambulance paramedics met a red Zodiac transporting the stricken man at the Porpoise Bay dock just before noon and brought him to St. Mary's Hospital.According to Sunshine Coast RCMP Const. Jason Rumming, a diving company had a serious diving accident. The man was having cardiac problems, Rumming told Coast Reporter. Police were attempting to notify the man's family Thursday afternoon, including his daughter who Rumming said was still out on the water. Police did not release his name. Coroner Laura Jensen is investigating the death. No other details on the incident were available as Coast Reporter went to press Thursday.Jessmarae Stein, who works at the Lighthouse Pub, said she watched people giving CPR to the man as the Zodiac approached the dock. She said paramedics were using defibrillators on the man while he lay on the dock. At that time she said he was blue and appeared to be dead. The man was grey-haired and appeared to be in his 40s or 50s, she said. -With files from Nancy Moote
