Loads of family fun in store

The Spirit of B.C. Sunshine Coast community committee has a number of free, family-style events planned to celebrate Spirit Week Feb. 8 to 16. The opening ceremonies begin next Friday (Feb.

The Spirit of B.C. Sunshine Coast community committee has a number of free, family-style events planned to celebrate Spirit Week Feb. 8 to 16.

The opening ceremonies begin next Friday (Feb. 8) at noon at Pioneer Square in The Landing in Gibsons where the Spirit flag will be raised.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, there will be a family curling bonspiel at the Gibsons Curling Club followed by a family skate at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt starting at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, Feb. 10, head to the Gibsons Aquatic Centre for a family swim from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Activities continue on Tuesday, Feb. 11, with a speed skating demonstration put on by the Pacific Blades speed skating club at the arena at 6:30 p.m. The Tetrahedron Outdoor Club will hold a cross country and downhill skiing demonstration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, with events wrapping up with a children's day celebration at The Club in The Landing from noon to 4 p.m.

These events are all free and there will be prizes and balloons and lots of goodies at many of the events. Come and support the committee as they launch the two-year countdown for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
