Heavy volumes on the long weekend

B.C. Ferries reported a heavy traffic volume, but otherwise a trouble free Labour Day long weekend.

"We had the Queen of Cowichan out of service, so we did see some over loads on Saturday coming over to the Sunshine Coast," said B.C. ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall on Tuesday afternoon. "There were also four small over loads on Sunday coming from Langdale and on Monday we had four overloads coming back from the Sunshine Coast. Overall, we had really good on-time performance and the weekend went pretty smoothly for the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay run."

Now that the summer season is over, B.C. Ferries has reverted back to its fall schedule. The complete schedule can be obtained at www.bcferries.com or check out our travel page on page B19 of today's Coast Reporter.

It's been a busy year so far for the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route.

Marshall said traffic statistics have been tabulated from April 1 to September.

"We are up 3.1 per cent in total vehicles and 2.7 per cent in passengers. Lots of people have been traveling to and from the Sunshine Coast," Marshall said.

Medical emergencyThe 5:30 p.m. ferry from Horseshoe Bay was delayed for more than 50 minutes on Tuesday night after a medical emergency.

Marshall said a man suffered a bee sting and went into shock.

Medical personal arrived shortly and treated the man, who Marshall said is fine.

The ferry left Horseshoe Bay at 6:23 p.m. The ferry was already running 30 minutes behind schedule due to heavy volume delays, added Marshall.
