Gibsons & District Volunteer Fire Department is reminding drivers if they ever think something's wrong with their vehicle, if something seems not normal, to pull over and check right away.
The reminder comes as the department responded to a vehicle fire that closed Pratt Road at about 3:30 p.m., Sunday.
Eighteen firefighters and three trucks responded to the fire, which was a fully involved engine fire by the time the first truck arrived, said Chris Facchin, fire prevention and life safety officer for the fire department. It was "a quick response from the team and [they] got the fire extinguished right away," he said.
No injuries were reported.
BC Transit was delayed as a bus was around the second vehicle to come down the road after the fire. "So they were delayed until the fire was extinguished and the scene was safe. And once the scene was safe, our crews were able to move the [fire] trucks and get the bus through right away," said Facchin. The road was closed for about 45 minutes, he added.
The fire's cause is undetermined. "It's an engine fire. That's all we know. That's where the fire started, but it's pretty hard to determine those fires once the car starts burning," said Facchin.
The vehicle was not an electric vehicle.
Facchin also wants to remind the public to always pull over for emergency apparatus.
