Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) directors cleared the way for repairs to fix the Keats Landing dock, which was damaged by a barge that collided with it in June.
A number of piles were damaged in the incident, and as a safety precaution the wharf approach has been closed to vehicles since. The derrick is also out of service.
Repairs should be underway soon, however, now that money has been approved for the contractor to move ahead with the fixes.
At an Oct. 24 board meeting, directors voted unanimously to approve staff’s recommendation to budget approximately $156,000 for “emergency repairs to Keats Landing dock.”
Most of those funds will be recovered through insurance, and $50,000 from reserves has been approved for any costs insurance won’t cover.
Summerhill Fine Homes is expected to begin the repairs shortly. Last January, the Gibsons-based company was awarded a three-year contract to conduct preventive maintenance repairs on SCRD ports.
