On Jan. 23, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the Sunshine Coast RCMP were notified of a missing person after a boat was found idling in the water near Egmont with no one on board, said a press release Wednesday.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre received the report and West Coast Marine units assisted with the investigation.
A short time later, a 68-year-old local man was located in the water deceased. There was nothing suspicious noted and the BC Coroners Service took conduct of the file, said the release.
The coroner's office told Coast Reporter the man was found deceased near Sutton Islets, which are within Skookumchuck Narrows, north of the rapids.
The man's family was notified and the police are not releasing his name.
