Less than a month after their delayed launch of Jan. 11., Dakota Ridge has had to close.

On Jan. 29., the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) announced that due to warm temperatures and with heavy rainfall,  the ski and snowshoe trails have been washed away.

The announcement said that Staff have determined conditions are too unsafe to remain open.

The Dakota Ridge team will be monitoring conditions frequently, working towards re-opening the recreational area as soon as it is safe to do so.

Delayed opening

Traditionally, Dakota Ridge's season begins in mid December, provided there is enough snow to support recreational activities.

After an unseasonably warm start to Winter, the ridge was unable to open until Jan. 11, where the main trails were opened up to visitors.
