On Saturday the Roberts Creek community celebrates Creek Daze, and the whole Coast is invited.
Music, vendors, games and prizes all take place at the Roberts Creek pier starting at noon. Activities are free and fun for the whole family. This year performing artists include Hippy Jay, Olivia Kingsbury, Marlin and DJs Nils and Lady Ra of Beats without Borders, with a stellar line-up of local talent. There is also a kidzone and blackberry pie contest with four taste-testing judge's seats raffled off. Bring pies to the pier by 3 p.m. to enter the contest.
Everything is kicked off with the annual Higgledy Piggledy parade that starts at the Roberts Creek Hall at 11:15 a.m. Dress up in your most festive costume and participate. Non-motorized vehicles welcome. Be at the hall by 10:30 a.m. if you wish to take part in the parade.
The Roberts Creek village area is active this year with the annual library book sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Raffle tickets can still be purchased for Creek Daze prizes. There is also a permaculture and organic gardening workshop hosted by Delvin of Gaiacrafts and Robin Wheeler of Edible Landscapes, who will take participants on a guided garden tour of the Heart of the Creek. Tour starts at 4 p.m. at the Gumboot Cafe patio.
Pre Creek Daze, locals can enter the Creek Scribe Award. Forms are available at local businesses. Entrants can also submit artwork for the Roberts Creek Co-created Community Calendar for $5 a submission. Art can be a photo or quality reproduction of an original art piece. The top 12 will be chosen for the 2006 Roberts Creek Calendar. Last day to submit will be on Saturday at the pier. The day's activities are capped off Saturday night at the hall with a groovalicious line-up, featuring two of Canada's hottest dance bands, Sekoya and Inject, plus Sijay and DJ Gram.
Tickets are $17 and available at the Roberts Creek Health Food Store and Coast Books in Gibsons. This is a licensed event, so no minors. All proceeds from the Daze events and dance go to the Roberts Creek Community Association to support the upkeep of the Roberts Creek Hall.
