Coast Reporter up for national awards

Coast Reporter, the Voice of the Sunshine Coast is once again up for three national newspaper awards. The Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) announced the finalists for this year's awards last Friday morning.

The Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) announced the finalists for this year's awards last Friday morning. Coast Reporter has been nominated for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page in the circulation class of 12,500 to 24,999.

Coast Reporter also won its second straight Blue Ribbon award, given in the General Excellence category to the top third of all papers in the competition, as determined by the panel of judges.

This is the second year in a row Coast Reporter has been nominated for all three awards.

Last year, Coast Reporter was named Best All-Round Newspaper, second in Best Front Page and third in Best Editorial Page."It makes us extremely proud to be singled out as one of the top community newspapers in Canada," said publisher Peter Kvarnstrom. "It is truly a reflection of the dedication of our staff and the tremendous involvement of our readers in the process of publishing Coast Reporter. I thank you all."

Three of Coast Reporter's sister papers, Squamish Chief, Powell River Peak and Whistler Question, are also up for Best All-Round Newspaper in their circulation classes.

The awards will be handed out at the CCNA annual convention June 1 to 4 in Banff.
