A B.C. Ambulance Service helicopter landed in the Saltery Bay ferry terminal parking lot Sunday, Sept. 11, to rescue a person who was injured is a boating accident.

B.C. Ferries' spokeswoman Ann Carpenter said the company received word there had been an accident on Jervis Inlet.

"It was necessary to lift the accident victim out," she said. "They needed a place to land the helicopter."

The injured person had been brought in a boat to the government dock at Saltery Bay, close to the ferry terminal.

The air ambulance helicopter landed after the 3:30 p.m. sailing was loaded. As it happened, that sailing had an overload and the vehicles that were left behind were moved over to the edge of the lot.

"The staff closed the lot and did passenger control to ensure that everyone stayed well out of the way," said Carpenter. "Then the helicopter came in and landed on the opposite side of the lot."

The injured person was transported to Vancouver General Hospital.
