The Sunshine Coast Lions Club kicked off the year with the annual Polar Bear Swim at Davis Bay. This year was a bit of a change as the club collaborated with the District of Sechelt and assisted in the Play Day at the arena. Though the weather was not the greatest, it did not dampen the spirits of the hundreds who came out to enjoy the festivities of the day.

All the events the Lions participate in are facilitated by members who volunteer their time. This year citizens of the community will see the Lions at various locations conducting fundraising activities that provide the club with finances to give back to the community as needs or requests come forward. Some of the more popular activities include weekly meat draws at Gilligan's Pub on Saturdays between 1 and 3 p.m., tailgate sales on the first and third Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (typically begins in April and ends in September held in Gilligan's parking lot), the Canada Day pancake breakfast, the drag races at the Sechelt airport in conjunction with the Rotary Club and Christmas tree sales held at Leek Road during the last three weeks leading up to Christmas Day.

These are but some of the activities the Sunshine Coast Lions Club conducts throughout the year. The group is always open to new ideas and willing to work with organizations to assist in their fundraising efforts. The Lions are a growing club and the door is open to new members or members of other clubs who find themselves on the Sunshine Coast.
