The Travel Ambassadors' Program of the Gibsons and District Chamber of Commerce welcomes visitors travelling on the B.C. Ferries Horseshoe Bay/Langdale route to the Sunshine Coast.
The mission of the program is to welcome and assist visitors from all parts of the world with inquiries about the Sunshine Coast from Howe Sound to Desolation Sound. Since its inception, the program has seen a significant increase in guests. In 2004 the travel ambassadors provided assistance to 11,500 people. The program on board B.C. Ferries operates from the Easter long weekend to the Thanksgiving weekend.
B.C. Ferries is a participating partner in the program, providing counter space and travel ambassadors' parking. In return, B.C. Ferries are relieved of many questions posed by tourists, allowing them to tend to their routine business.
Research shows that, leading up to the 2010 Olympics, visitors to the Sunshine Coast will increase substantially. With the additional new ferry on the Horseshoe Bay/Langdale route, the travel ambassadors should see a significant increase in visitor traffic over the next six years. This will mean an anticipated increase of ambassadors from 16 to 35. Travel ambassadors are the first contact many people have with the Sunshine Coast, the first impression visitors encounter - one of friendliness and pride in the community and a welcoming smile.
