Lions were roaring, mice squeaking, dolphins breaching, kangaroos hopping, dogs sniffing, snails sliming and monkeys swinging. Every animal you can imagine was doing its thing at the Gibsons Library summer reading club with Jean-Pierre Makosso on Aug. 5.
With faces painted and wearing armbands and headbands, the animals came to ask the leopard for the drum. They danced and danced, but the leopard would not give them the drum. Finally the animals convinced the leopard to share his knowledge as a gift. He taught them how to make their own drums and music.
In the end, more than 50 children in the reading club received the greatest gift of all from Jean-Pierre as he gave his music, dance and love in a universal story of generosity and sharing. It was a fun and interactive performance as the children danced, roared and made music with their own beautifully handcrafted shakers.
What a wonderful experience! Jean-Pierre is an excellent storyteller and we are lucky to have him here in Gibsons offering his talent and expertise in workshops, classes and performances all year around.
