The Coast Chamber Strings – the adult string division of the Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra Association – returns to the Sechelt Nation Hall on May 11 with A Capriccio, a joyful presentation of Italian music for strings.
This light-hearted program will take audiences on an Italian adventure with such beloved composers as Vivaldi, Corelli, and Rossini. In a more serious tone, the overture to Mozart’s Italian opera Idomeneo will paint moody pictures of shipwrecks, love, and betrayal. And happy visions of the Italian countryside will wrap up the program with Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony.
The Coast Chamber Strings, under the direction of Sarah Poon, meet weekly to explore the string orchestra repertoire and enjoy bringing music to life together. This community ensemble always welcomes new players and is looking forward to what musical delights next season will bring.
In the meantime, they look forward to sharing their music with you! Perfect timing for Mothers’ Day – an Italian treat for mothers, others, and all – this program is sure to enchant. Tickets are $20 ($5 for children 12 and under), available at Strait Music, Laedeli, and at the door.
