Sechelt will host its first TEDx event on Oct. 1 at Chatelech Secondary School, bringing together artists and speakers from diverse fields from the Sunshine Coast. ?
The theme of TEDxSechelt is The Nature of Creativity, with discussions about music, art and education as a tool for social change. TEDxSechelt will feature interactive demonstrations of music software and iPad story applications. There will be live music, installations from local arts organizations, films and inspired thinking about mountain bike culture.
Featured speakers include Matthew Talbot Kelly (narratives in an imaginative landscape), Giorgio Magnanensi (sound thinking) and Jay Hoots (designing sustainable bike trails.)
There will also be an interactive social space in the main lobby entrance with display booths featuring artists, non-profit societies, designers, educators and film makers.
This is a full-day catered event and only 100 people will be selected to attend, as mandated by the TED organization for first time local events. Those interested in attending must apply on-line at www.TEDxSechelt.ca before Sept 15 to be eligible to receive a ticket. Aticket lottery will be held to determine who will be awarded these tickets.
TED is a non-profit organization devoted to ideas worth spreading, with a major focus on technology, entertainment and design. TEDx is an extension of this program, featuring local, self-organized events that bring people together to share ideas and experiences.
