Local parents are struggling to find affordable, quality care for their children when they need it.
Without reliable child care it is challenging for parents work and earn a living.
A diverse group of people have mobilized, including concerned parents, grandparents, child care providers and other professionals, to help address the problem. This Child Care Action Team (CCAT) is working together with the Community Resource Centre’s Progress Plan.
The group is developing new partnerships and seeking ways to create new childcare spaces that include flexible options for parents who need care in the evenings, on weekends and during shift work.
How can you take action? Begin by thinking about the importance of child care in the lives of your own extended family, friends, co-workers or employees. Affordable and available child care helps attract and retain the young working families we so desperately need on the Sunshine Coast.
Maybe you’re a parent considering starting up a home-based child care, or maybe you are already a well-established child care provider. If so, chances are you could use some more funding.
New capital funding is now available from the Ministry of Children and Family Development to create 1,000 new child care spaces across B.C.
The CCAT is hosting a free grant writing workshop for child care providers on Thursday, June 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at 5520 Trail Avenue in Sechelt. Get helpful tips and techniques from experienced grant writer Heather Gordon.
