This Father’s Day weekend, families on the Sunshine Coast have a chance to give dad what he really wants — a new car — or at least a little taste of one.
Hot dogs and hot rides are both on the menu this Saturday, June 14, as the Gibsons Elementary School playground committee teams up with South Coast Ford to offer dads (and moms) the chance to test drive a new car and raise money for a new playground at the same time.
Staff from South Coast Ford will be bringing their newest model cars and trucks to the school parking lot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., where members of the parents playground group will be hosting a family barbecue and charity test drive.
Treat your father to a hot dog while he ogles the newest vehicle models.
As part of the event, Ford is putting its money where its motor is to help out. As part of the company’s Drive One 4 UR Community program, for each household that test drives one of Ford’s new cars or trucks, the company will donate $20 towards the elementary school’s playground fund.
While work is progressing quickly on building Gibsons state-of-the-art new elementary school, opening this September, parents still have a long way to go to raise money for the playground that goes with that.
Simply put, new playground equipment just isn’t in the budget anymore when it comes to new school construction — that all has to be raised by the community. And playgrounds are expensive, costing anywhere from $100,000 and up.
That’s where help from community partners like South Coast Ford comes in.
So go ahead, Dad. Get behind the wheel and take it for a spin. It’s all for a good cause.
