Well over a hundred avid “picklers” ranging in age from pre-teen to 75+ competed in the Sunshine Coast Pickleball Association’s eighth Arena Bowl at Gibsons Arena, June 24 and 25. In an atmosphere both convivial and competitive, 193 action-packed round robin matches were played. SCPA members vied for gold, silver and bronze medals in 13 men’s, women’s and mixed categories, organized by skill level with a men’s open singles event to cap the final day. Congratulations to the winners and kudos to all who participated. It was a delight to see so many younger folks playing this year. In fact, three generations of one family competed in different events! A shout out to SCPA members from Penticton, Powell River, Squamish and the Lower Mainland who braved the ferries to compete. A gold medal goes to the tournament directors and the many volunteers who guaranteed that the two days ran smoothly and on time. We all look forward to the day we many host many fun-filled events in our own permanent facility here on the Coast.
