Sunshine Coast Loppet, Snowshoe Poker Challenge return

The 6th Annual Sunshine Coast Loppet and Snowshoe Poker Challenge is Sunday, Feb. 12 at Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area.

The Tetrahedron Outdoor Club is excited to welcome the public to the 6th Annual Sunshine Coast Loppet and Snowshoe Poker Challenge Sunday, Feb. 12 at Dakota Ridge Winter Recreation Area.

The event was unable to run the past two years in the pandemic, but is returning to have community fun, get some exercise and celebrate winter in the pristine wilderness. There are events for all ages and fitness levels.

Youth are an important part of the Sunshine Coast Loppet with Dakota Ridge Nordics as one of the organizing sponsors. “We have 101 children learning to ski and develop their skills in this year’s program,” said co-race director Chael MacArthur. “We encourage all kids to experience snow with their choice of 2.5km, 1km and 100m events in the loppet.”

Adults are welcome to join the 12km cross-country ski course that involves a majority of the Dakota Ridge trail system. It’s a chance for a group ski and to have people cheering you on. January’s fresh snowfall and a group of motivated groomers have the trails in great shape this year.

Non-skiers can enjoy the Snowshoe Poker Challenge, sponsored by Alpha Adventures. The 2km course meanders through the beautiful forests of Dakota Ridge and includes peekaboo views of the Salish Sea. Unlike a timed race, this event is perfect for almost everyone as you can travel at your own pace. Participants obtain five playing cards on their journey and create a poker hand at the finish. The best poker hand will win the challenge.

Registration information can be found at http://sunshinecoastloppet.ca/.

Organizers look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the trails of Dakota Ridge.
