Coming off a strong week where they won three straight games, the Chatelech senior girls basketball team will wrap up their regular season this week with a Thursday afternoon game against the Sentinel Spartans. With five wins and two losses, Chatelech is currently third in the North Shore Secondary School Athletics Association (NSSSAA) first division, and first amongst AA schools in their division. With a win, the team will clinch third place and their spot in the league playoffs next week.

Over the past month, the senior girls have worked hard to improve each and every week, and they are seeing the results on the floor, with a current four-game winning streak. Over the last two weeks, they lost a tight game at Seycove Secondary and then brought home wins against Bodwell Secondary, Rockridge Secondary, Howe Sound Secondary and Windsor Secondary.

The team has also taken time to give back to the community, with their fourth annual Shoot-a-thon Fundraiser. On Jan. 20, the senior girls made 2023 shots (622 layups, 800 free throws, 600 three pointers and one half court shot) in just under two hours to raise more than $1,600 for the Together Against Violence Program, which runs our local women’s shelters, and provides counselling and other support services for vulnerable women in our community.

Looking ahead, the Chatelech senior girls will face either the Collingwood Cavaliers or the Mulgrave Titans in the semifinals next week. A win in the semifinals or consolation finals will ensure them a spot in the Vancouver Sea to Sky (VS2S) regional playoffs the following week.

The team would like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has come out and supported them this season, and they hope to keep a really special year going as long as they can.
