The Salvation Army held its third annual Christmas Kettle volunteer appreciation luncheon at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club (SCG&CC) on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Approximately 70 volunteers attended the event and shared a wonderful meal prepared by the SCG&CC staff.
Maj. Sandra Rowsell welcomed the volunteers and thanked them for their support in making the 2012 kettle campaign a successful one.
Maj. Ken Ritson, B.C. divisional secretary for public relations and development, and regional kettle campaign coordinator Brian Lee made the trip from Vancouver as guest speakers.
Ritson thanked the volunteers for their support and spoke about the sometimes difficult work of the kettle volunteers who come out rain or shine to ring the bells and raise money for those in need in their community.
Lee said 2012 marked the 106th anniversary of the Salvation Army's Christmas kettle campaign, adding he was very impressed by the Sunshine Coast community, calling the Coast supporters "an amazing team."
Through their efforts, the Salvation Army on the Coast earned more than $58,000 in the kettle campaign, all of which will directly fund local service programs for those in need on the Sunshine Coast.
As cake and coffee were served, Rowsell graciously thanked the many volunteers, commenting that none of the programs and services provided by the Salvation Army on the Coast would be possible without their support. "I look forward to seeing you all again next year," she added.
