A summer camp at Ruby Lake Resort this July is designed to help teens discover the purpose of their lives.
The theme for the camp is based on The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo, the most translated book in the world. The story of a shepherd boy who goes on a journey to search for treasure is an allegory about learning how to accomplish one’s desires.
Experiences available at the camp have been planned to give young people the tools they can use to enjoy meaningful lives. They include nature activities such as shelter building, survival skills and campfires, along with cultural and life force activities like expressive dance, drumming, yoga and meditation.
There are facilities for canoeing, hiking and nature walks in a pristine bird sanctuary and ecological reserve with trees up to 3,500 years old. Accommodations are in shared safari tents that balance comfort with rustic living at the edge of a forest with views of Ruby Lake Lagoon.
The 10-day, nine-night camp runs from July 26 to Aug. 4.
Each summer, the Teen Journey Society creates a temporary village, staffed with a team of expert leaders and facilitators, to help young people explore the questions “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” so they can contribute to the world and become inspiring leaders in their communities.
