News that a good many Creekers will be happy to hear: The Roberts Creek Legion #219 will rise from the beer-soaked ashes of the last few months and begins to serve again! The Legion is making July “fund-raising month” to try to pull themselves out of the rough financial shape this extended closure has put them in.
It all starts with a Grand Reopening this Saturday, July 4. A bottle drive kicks things off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with drink service on the front lawn from noon to 8 p.m. There will be entertainment from Bonar, Grant Olson, the Jeevious Family, Captain Fantasy Acoustic and special guests. Yes, Live and in Person Music Entertainment!
Any performers who are interested in benefit performances on their beautiful outdoor stage this month, please contact Don at 604-989-1204 or email [email protected]
Proof that Roberts Creek is a state of mind is embodied in one Pat Ridgway. While she and Ian now live in Elphinstone, this artist of stunning talent is 100 per cent Creeker. Pat is searching for material for a book on the origins of Earth Day celebrations here.
If you attended any of the first 12 Earth Days on the Coast and have any interesting memories, photos, anecdotes or other information on your involvement as either an attendee or participant, she would appreciate your contribution. Perhaps you were part of the performance aspect, master of ceremonies, musician, dancer, speaker, stage builder, or booth constructor.
The focus is on the years between 1990 and 2001, the 12 years that she organized Earth Day, beginning at Sunnycrest Mall in 1990, at the SCRAPS depot in ’91, continuing to Cliff Gilker for four years, and finally at the Roberts Creek Pier Park on the Mandala from ’96 on. Email her (and expect a few questions) at [email protected]

I stumbled across a 25-minute video on YouTube by Ryan White that may be of interest to you. Entitled Peace Love and Paint – A Roberts Creek Documentary by Element 7 Productions, it is a time capsule of the 2007 painting of our Mandala, starring all the usual suspects. Neat!
