Pender Harbour-Egmont highlights: Seniors Initiatives for 2025 under way

Celtic Harp performance is this Sunday, Jan. 19, 2 p.m. at the School of Music. Seumas Gagne is an extraordinary Celtic harpist, singer, composer, and instructor fluent in Scottish Gaelic and winner of the solo harp competition at the Royal Scottish MOD in Scotland. He will be joined by violinist Christine Traxler and cellist Eli Weinberger. The time is perfect for an afternoon of heartfelt Celtic instrumentals and traditional songs. Tickets $30 at the PHMS website. I am looking forward to this special live music event. Yes, I will be in my front row seat. See you there. 

Sunday Afternoon Music at the Legion welcomes Spindrift Street on Jan. 19, 2 to 5 p.m. $10 at the door. Enjoy an afternoon of wonderful music, food, and friends. 

The Pender Harbour Women’s Connection Tuesday morning, Jan. 21 celebrate with a New Year’s Ceilidh (a Scottish social gathering of music and singing) and the return of Gibsons’ Alex Buchanan and Electric Tartan. Their songs are sure to warm the heart on a winter’s day and received rave reviews on their previous visits. Don your glad plaids and join a fun filled “Auld Lang Syne.” Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the School of Music, Ceilidh begins at 10 a.m. Drop-in fee of $4. Refreshments included. 

Seniors Initiatives activities for 2025 are under way. Harbourside Friendships Thursdays weekly drop-in at the Hall, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Jan. 23, free lunch for all who attend. Carpet Bowling Wednesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. Chair Yoga at the Hall Mondays and Fridays, 11 a.m. to noon and Wednesday Jan. 15, 22, 29 at Sarah Wray Hall 11 a.m. to noon. Drop-in $3. Two special events: Tuesday, Jan. 22, Pender Harbour Reading Centre drop-in, one-on-one assistance signing up for Sechelt Library Card and accessing free account to access audiobooks. Bring your device. Sunday, Jan. 26, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., “Excessive Clutter,” a free public presentation with April Struthers, BC Association of Community Response Networks at the Hall. 

Get your tickets now for the Bargain Barn 2nd Annual Fashion Exchange Wine and Cheese Fundraiser, Feb. 2, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Pender Harbour Community Hall. Enjoy a delightful afternoon filled with conversation, socializing, laughter, and shopping, a perfect mix. A silent auction too! At the event, bring new or gently used clothing, handbags, footwear, scarves, hats, and jewellery that you no longer need but are still in great condition. For each item donated, you will receive a token, which can be exchanged for an item someone else has brought. Additional tokens are available for purchase at $5 each or five for $20. EarthFair Bookstore will be open Tuesday to Saturday for the month of January. Cozy up this winter with new books then get out of the house and enjoy Literacy Month playing fun games of Scrabble.
