Forests and water: does logging affect our water supply and risk of floods? The Pender Harbour Wildlife Society is pleased to present Dr. Younes Alila from the UBC Faculty of Forestry.
This free evening of presentations will be held at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt (5790 Teredo St.) on Saturday, Nov. 23. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Presentations start at 7 p.m. There will be a break with refreshments and a raffle.
Women’s Connection, Tuesday, Nov. 26, welcomes Pender Harbour’s Ukulele group H.U.G.S. They have been playing together since 2015 when a few keen “want to be musicians” wanted to learn the ukulele. Under the leadership of Helga Grout, the H.U.G.S. were formed. Their humble beginnings started with learning basic chords, strums, favourite tunes combined with great enthusiasm for fun. Many years later they are still playing together learning as they go, taking turns leading the group while supporting each other. They welcome anyone with the willingness to learn, practice and a ukulele. H.U.G.S. are all about the FUN of learning and being part of a fantastic group who play for the love of music. Our Rotary Club has a new story up on the Storybook Walk on the Lillies Lake trail, across from the PH Medical Center called Salmon Boy by Donna Joe. The story is from a shíshálh legend. Families are encouraged to walk the trail and read the book along the way, a wonderful experience for all ages.
‘O Come All Ye Soulful,’ Dawn Pemberton and Jodi Proznick is Sunday, Dec. 8, 2 p.m. at the School of Music. It is the fantastic holiday concert in the Pender Harbour Music Society’s 2024/2025 series. Saturday, Dec. 14, two annual PHCC events will be happening, the annual Christmas Market will be at the Hall, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., while Winterfest will be 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Millenium Park.
Highlights of the market, the famous $5 lunch, Bargain Barn tables with great Christmas gifts and collectibles, Bargain Barn raffle tickets $5 with terrific prizes! (Draw before market closes.) The Pender Harbour Choir presents their holiday gift of music Merry Little Christmas, Dec.15, 2 p.m. at the School of Music and Dec. 17, 7 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens. Tickets $25 at door, through a member of the choir or at EarthFair Store.
At dark, Dec. 15, the Carol ships will sail from the government dock at Millenium Park.
