Pender Harbour-Egmont highlights: Celtic Harp kicks off year for PHMS concerts

And, Women’s Connection hosts New Year’s Ceilidh

First Coffee House of 2025 is tonight, Friday, Jan. 10, at the School of Music with local stars performing: solo artist Gen Katagiri and the much-loved duo Joan and Ted. Doors open at 7 p.m. Music at 7:30 p.m. $10 suggested donation at the door. 

The first Pender Harbour Music Society concert of this year, Celtic Harp is Sunday, Jan. 19, 2 p.m. at the School of Music. Seumas Gagne is an extraordinary Celtic harpist and singer who is fluent in Scottish Gaelic. He is also a composer and sought after instructor in both harp and Gaelic. Seumas was winner of the solo harp competition at the Royal Scottish MOD in Scotland. He will be joined by violinist Christine Traxler and cellist Eli Weinberger. Get ready for an afternoon of heartfelt Celtic instrumentals and traditional songs. Tickets $30 at the PHMS website.  

Sunday afternoon music at the Legion starts off Jan. 12 with Peter Van Deursen and his fabulous band Magic Carpet Ride, featuring Al Alford, Graham Ord and Tim Rannard. Following Sundays entertainment are Spindrift Street on Jan. 19 and Blue Western on Jan. 26. 2 to 5 p.m. $10 at the door. 

The Pender Harbour Women’s Connection opens their 2025 season Jan. 21 with a New Year’s Ceilidh (a Scottish social gathering of music and singing). They are delighted to announce the return of Gibsons’ Alex Buchanan with his band Electric Tartan. Their songs and toe tapping music are sure to warm the heart on a winter’s day. They received rave reviews on their previous visits so grab your glad plaids and join in for a fun filled Auld Lang Sang. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. at the School of Music, Ceilidh begins at 10 a.m. Drop-in fee of $4. Refreshments included. 

The Bargain Barn 2nd Annual Fashion Exchange Wine and Cheese Fundraiser, Feb. 2, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Pender Harbour Community Hall. Here are the details: At the event, bring new or gently used clothing, handbags, footwear, scarves, hats and jewellery that you no longer need but are still in great condition. For each item donated, you will receive a token, which can be exchanged for an item someone else has brought. Additional tokens are available for purchase at $5 each or five for $20.
