Pender Harbour Days, held July 7 to 9 in Madeira Park, kicked off on Friday with a parade of boats, followed by live music at the School of Music.
Saturday began with a kids’ fishing derby and a display of heritage wooden boats, marine equipment and artifacts hosted by the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society. Millennium Park was bustling with pony rides and a petting zoo, face painting, mini boat building, games, art and crafts, interactive demos, vendors, and community displays.
A highlight was the diving demonstration at Madeira Park docks with hard-hat diving and a televised view of the ocean floor, followed by sailboat races around Pender Harbour, Search and Rescue and firefighter demonstrations, and a log sawing contest.
Those who still had energy to burn danced it off to the music of The Relics at Pender Harbour Legion.
Sunday’s big event was the arrival of the historic rowboat, the Buttercup, escorted by the Garden Bay Sailing Club. Allen Farrell’s beloved 18-foot dory (originally the Peace and Quiet) will retire in Pender Harbour.
