The family of Rose Nicholson are sad to announce her passing at home in her 97th year.
Mom lived an adventurous life starting in her younger years travelling by passenger freighters and living abroad for her father’s work in Barbados, British Guiana, California, and then back to West Vancouver in her early twenties. While studying at UBC she enjoyed hiking and skiing the mountains of Hollyburn and Grouse. This is where she met our dad and in their early marriage they embarked on a challenging 24’ sailboat journey which would lead them to settle at their off grid waterfront home in Port Hardy Bay. They spent many years there raising their 4 children and mom become very adept at rowing a boat as this was her only mode of transport to get across the bay for supplies. In the early 70s life changed a little and mom moved with her children to Roberts Creek.
Mom always had a passion for reading and along with her eldest daughter Diane they opened “The Book Store” on Cowrie St. They owned it for many years and the legacy still lives on but is now known as Talewind Books.
Mom thrived in this setting as she was an excellent listener and communicator and loved to share her wisdom with her customers along with her family and friends. If mom wasn’t reading a book you could find her in her other favourite place, her garden. She so enjoyed tending to her flowers or just relaxing in the sun.
Mom was predeceased by her daughter Diane and is survived by her son’s Bruce, Mike (Denise) and daughter Elspeth. Grandchildren Bob, Ashley, Andrea (Dan), Trevor (Dayna), Melissa (Ben), Jennifer (Dale) and Nicole; and her great grandchildren, Owen, Jeremiah, Jordy, Dane, Kane, Jada and Oliver.
A special thank you to her friends for your visits and companionship, Cathrine, Sue, Dena, Judy and her friend Alora, who went before her but we know you are together again.
