Obituary: Lila Faye McCourt (nee McPhedran)

Faye was born in Windsor, Ontario. She attended Kennedy Collegiate Institute and excelled in many sports. She joined Canadian Forces for six years before taking the R.N.A. course in Toronto in 1966.

She moved west to Sechelt in 1967 and worked in St. Mary’s Hospital as a L.P.N. until 1972. She was pre-deceased by her brother Vern in 1975, her mother Dorothy in 1978  and her father George in 1982. She married Gordon Hugh McCourt in 1968.

Faye was a caregiver to many seniors over the years. She was addicted to snail mail and greeting cards for over sixty years. She loved butterflies, rainbows and hummingbirds. She resided at Royal Reach for the past 20 years as a recluse and a hidden hoarder.

A dedicated house and pet-sitter, she was known as The Bird Lady at Shorncliffe Care Facility. She enjoyed spending many hours visiting her senior friends in care facilities as well as home visits. She loved to dress up at Halloween and took many photos over the years.

She has earned her wings and is now set free.
