November 23, 1944 - November 23, 2023
Doug has gone over the Rainbow Bridge to take his eight, lifelong canine buddies for a forest walk and to search for predeceased family and friends along the way.
He leaves behind Sylvia, his lover of 60 years; his son Greg (Nikki); daughter Kristina; his sister Betty Jean; granddaughter Kyra; and grandsons Jack and Tristan. 'Pops' will be buried treasure in their hearts. His father, mother, and younger brother, Ron, predeceased him.
Doug, a man of indomitable spirit and boundless humour, leaves a legacy etched in the hearts of all who knew him. A courageous family man and creative force, Doug's life was a tapestry of selfless acts and joyous moments shared with his loved ones. His stories, brimming with wit and wisdom, captured the essence of a life lived fully, from his adventurous youth, to the love story with his wife Sylvia, to the tender moments of grandfatherhood. Doug always knew what the people around him needed and what he could do to help make their lives more meaningful.
Even in the face of cancer, Doug's resilience was remarkable. He fought with courage, consistently placing the wellbeing of Sylvia and his family above his own. His final days, peaceful and on his own terms, were a testament to a life well-planned and even better lived. Doug, Dad, Pops, we will forever miss your stories, laughter, and spirit, and your legacy will continue to live on in each of us.
Doug wanted to express his gratitude for the caring help he received from his medical team, led by Dr. Julie Baxter. Doug chose cremation to, in his words, "get the burned in hell part over with" before his family announces a Celebration of Life.
