Obituary: Dody Grant

'Her Scrabble was legendary as well as getting “Wordle” in two tries several times. There was a standing bridge game every Thursday at her home until two weeks before her passing with low stakes and lots of laughs.'

1921-2025

Born in Winnipeg Manitoba, her family made the move to Vancouver where she met and married George Grant who passed away at the age of 93 on the Sunshine Coast. Dody leaves her two sons Gregory Grant/Terri Murphy and brother Robin Grant, plus grandchildren Heather, Sandy, Marnie and Carlee: great-grand children; Christopher, Matthew, Melina and Samantha and Great-Great grandchild Vincent Turner born on her birthday Jan. 7, 2025 (her 104th birthday which she was able to celebrate) for the family’s 5th generation. Dody and George moved to South California in the late 40’s as a cure for her health at that time. They moved back home to B.C. on the Sunshine Coast in 1979. Dody’s life was filled with love and compassion for all the people she met along the way and was a role model for many. Her interests were many as in being an avid reader of books and and an accomplished golfer, winning many tournaments, including at age 90….the only trophy she displayed at home. She gave back to the sport as a Board member and Rules Chairperson. Dody was very active in helping others as a 30-year volunteer at St. Mary’s Thrift Store and a supporter at St. Bart’s Church. With her age being ”just a number” she continued her interest in health issues, proper exercise and meditation practice. She was also an early believer in astrology, making charts for family and friends. Her brain kept her going with multitasking, as in T.V. shows (Jeopardy), a book on her lap and a puzzle not far away. Her Scrabble was legendary as well as getting “Wordle” in two tries several times. There was a standing bridge game every Thursday at her home until two weeks before her passing with low stakes and lots of laughs. Special thanks to her team of caregivers who enriched her life and contributed to her ability to stay at home. She will see you on the other side (as a believer in Sylvia Brown). A Celebration of Life will be held at Roberts Creek Golf Course on March 29th from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
