July 12, 1947 - March 5, 2025
David Whiteway was born July 12, 1947, in Devon, England, and passed away peacefully at home in Gibsons on March 5, 2025, surrounded by family. David is survived by his beloved wife Deborah, her son Ethan, his daughter Jacqui (Brian), and his grandchildren Carmen, Orion, and Mitchell. He was predeceased by his sister Anne, and brother Michael, and survived by brothers Tony, Peter and Andrew.
David was a farmer, a passion deeply rooted in his rural West Country of England upbringing. He left England on his 18th birthday to emigrate to Canada and swiftly became involved in farming, through working with his mentor Geoffrey Mitchell at Sea Bluff Farm, where "David's Field" remains to this day. After a spell in the UK in the '80s helping his sister on her farm, David and Deborah returned to Canada, finding their perfect home in Gibsons in 1989. Together, they established West Country Landscaping while also transforming their property into a park-like expanse of 3+ acres.
A celebration of David's life will be held on his birthday. Please honour his memory by taking care of the land and keeping your wits about you.
