Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and Sweden—these are some of the “happiest countries” on Earth, year over year. Why is that? What makes some people happier than others?

Join John Helliwell, founding editor of the World Happiness Report and the driving force behind these global rankings, at the Raven’s Cry Theatre in Sechelt on Oct. 9 to hear the answer to these questions.

For the first time, the World Happiness Report has been able to separate age and generational patterns of happiness as well as geographical ones, bringing rich new insights into life-satisfaction and well-being.

“Happiness is a consequence,” said Helliwell, “not an objective. It’s a consequence of doing things to the benefit of other people.”

Known for his work with the Bhutanese government and United Nations on the topic, John Helliwell was born and raised in Vancouver and hails from the school of Economics at UBC. Sechelt Hospital Foundation is proud to bring his thought-leadership to the Sunshine Coast as part of its ongoing MedTalks series, and “give thanks” to our community of donors and sponsors for supporting local medicine.

To attend, please RSVP at SecheltHospitalFoundation.org. Entry is by donation, and seating is on a first-come basis, limited to theatre capacity. MedTalks: World Happiness Report, Oct. 9, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Raven’s Cry Theatre, Sechelt.
