The Sunshine Coast Camera Club (SCCC) will be donating the proceeds of all image sales from its latest display to Ukraine relief funds. The display in London Drugs photo department includes large and small prints produced by club members who are residents of the Coast. Images feature Coastal and other landscapes, wildlife, still life, portraits and creative photography.

“We’ve all been moved by the destruction occurring in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis unfolding due to the Russian war on Ukraine. This wasn’t initially part of our plan in January when we arranged the display with London Drugs, but after the idea was suggested, the members with images on display were 100 per cent supportive of donating all proceeds to Ukrainian relief,” said Janet Slater, president of the club.

London Drugs quickly endorsed the plan when it was proposed to them.

Gibsons resident and longtime photographer and camera enthusiast, Vash Stepanek, the SCCC member who proposed the donation, said he was inspired by his Czech sister who lives in a small town called Ricany, outside Prague. She has taken in two Ukrainian boys. So many refugees, especially children, have been taken into Czech families that Czech TV now broadcasts programming for Ukrainian children. He says he tried to wire money to help, but the differing banking systems make this difficult. He hopes people will purchase the photographs to support the international Red Cross that is helping in this humanitarian crisis.

People interested in viewing the images on offer should visit the London Drugs photo department. Images are on overhead “banners,” on the walls, behind the cash register and on the end-cap display. Images can be purchased by contacting the photographer via a contact list provided at the store.

The London Drugs display will be in place from March 1 to April 30.
