Leave the autumn rain behind and jump into the warm seas of Polynesia for an underwater adventure.

West Sechelt resident Alexis Harrington will give an illustrated presentation describing a recent visit to French Polynesia, at the Sechelt Arts Centre, Nov. 3, hosted by the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society. Harrington will explore the islands of Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Taha’a and Bora Bora along with the Tuamotu Archipelago’s Fakarava and Rangiroa.

The presentation will cover the history of the region, include video of traditional dance and song, and explore the difference in the ages of the islands and how this impacts their geography and habitat. Much of the presentation will focus on underwater photography and video of the myriad underwater life. Harrington will also share tips on how to avoid the more dangerous sharks.

Harrington runs Sand Dollar Book-keeping, an innovative bookkeeping firm, is a director at large for both the Sargeant Bay Society and the Self Employed Women’s Network, and is the treasurer for both the Sechelt & District Chamber of Commerce and the Sunshine Coast Botanical Garden Society. She has visited French Polynesia four times and has travelled the Trans Siberian Railway, been to the Canadian Arctic, cruised through Patagonia and Antarctica, and explored the jungles of Costa Rica and Panama.

The presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. Visitors welcomed.
