Library creating mini reading room

Sechelt

In response to a survey and patron requests, the Sechelt Public Library is in the process of creating a mini reading room within the library.

People have told the library they want more room to be able to sit and read comfortably, use their laptops and mobile devices and use wireless Internet. The result is empty shelves. But it’s only temporary.

To make more room, the library is in the process of removing books and eventually some shelving. People may notice significant gaps as low circulating books are removed from the collection and saleable items are sent to Better World Books for resale. Many print books will be updated and replaced, more signage will be installed, and the library will continue to purchase new books.
It will take time to complete this substantial revitalization, and the library asks everyone to be patient while it goes through this transition.

The new mini reading room will be furnished by the Friends of the Library who have been raising funds through their ongoing book faires at which they sell gently-used books donated by the community.

The next Friends of the Library Book Faire, with fabulously low prices for used books, is June 21, from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition, the library has been working on a new website with the help of BC Libraries Cooperative, which has a membership of more than 100 libraries and strives to improve efficiency, reduce costs and extend service delivery in libraries. Access to the old library website will still be available while the new website is fine-tuned.
