The Lagoon Society is hosting its sixth annual Bioblitz event May 18 to 19 in Pender Harbour and are looking for volunteers.
Part contest, part festival, part educational event and part scientific enterprise, a Bioblitz is a 24-hour survey of all life at various field locations throughout the Sunshine Coast including the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve.
If you're a keen nature lover and can help identify species (from trees, plants and mosses to aquatic invertebrates, insects, birds and marine life) and would love to share your knowledge with the public, consider joining the team of volunteer guides at the field survey locations, or help ID specimens at the base camp throughout the day on Saturday.
"We're also looking for general event volunteers who can help make the day a spectacular and fun experience for all," said Nadi Fleschhut, centre manager and program coordinator. "We are pleased to offer some perks such as accommodation for off-Coast volunteers, reimbursement of travel expenses, great food throughout the weekend, and of course our super-cool Bioblitz T-shirts."
If interested, please contact Nadi at the Iris Griffith Centre at 604-883-9201 or email [email protected].
