Staying active and engaged in community programs can sometimes feel out of reach for families and individuals facing financial barriers. That’s where the Leisure Inclusion for Everyone (LIFE) Program steps in. Administered by the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD), this initiative provides access to recreational opportunities for those who need it most. Whether it’s a child wanting to join a swimming lesson or a senior seeking to stay active with fitness classes, the LIFE Program makes it possible.
The LIFE Program is tailored to provide meaningful access to SCRD recreational facilities up and down the Coast, enabling residents to enjoy the physical, mental, and social benefits of staying active. Approved participants receive a range of benefits, including free admissions to select drop-in activities and discounted rates for programs offered at facilities like the Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre, Gibsons & Area Community Centre and the Sechelt Aquatic Centre.
How It Works
Eligibility is determined based on household income and family size, using the Canada Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) thresholds as a guide. For example, a single-person household must have an income below $25,146 to qualify, while a family of four can earn up to $46,726. These benchmarks ensure the program is focused on supporting those who need financial assistance the most.
If you are unable to declare your income because you don’t have a Notice of Assessment (NOA) or your NOA shows you would exceed the low-income cut-off but your current financial situation is below, please speak with a member of the recreation team to substitute with an Agency Referral Form.
Application process
Getting started is simple. Applicants can download the application form from the SCRD website (scrd.ca/financial-assistance) or pick up a paper copy at participating recreation facilities. Completed forms and proof of income and residency can be submitted in person at any SCRD facility. Staff are always available to provide guidance, ensuring the process is as seamless and welcoming as possible. You are also welcome to drop by the Resource Centre, and our team will happily help you with your application.
There is a combination of drop-in passes and program credits, which include the following: Option A: $100 program credit and 70 MYPASS Visits; Option B: $200 program credit and 52 MYPASS visits; Option C: $300 program credit and 35 MYPASS visits. These options are good for one calendar year, from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2025.
More than just recreation
With rising costs making affordability a concern for many, programs like LIFE are critical in breaking down barriers to participation in recreation. Whether through a family swim session or a drop-in yoga class, engaging in community recreation isn’t just about staying fit—it’s also about connection.
