Coast Car Co-op is test driving a new location and vehicle accessible in Sechelt for its members until September.

The Coast Car Co-op is exploring demand for expanded service in Sechelt. The co-op maintains three vehicles in Gibsons, one in Roberts Creek and one in Sechelt. With plans to acquire additional vehicles in the next two years, the co-op is testing locations in Sechelt, and seeking new members.

Until Sept. 3, Coast Car Co-op members in Sechelt have access to a white Ford Ranger stationed at Capilano University campus (facing Inlet Ave.), in addition to the Pontiac Vibe regularly parked at Trail Bay Mall.

“Our pick-up trucks are very popular for moving, hauling green waste, and picking up bulky loads such as building supplies,” said co-op chair, Betty Baxter. “We haven’t previously had a pick-up truck available in Sechelt, so we are hoping that members take advantage of the opportunity.”

Coast Car Co-op is a non-profit co-operative offering access to a variety of vehicles as a convenient, affordable, and sustainable alternative to traditional car ownership. Established in 2014, the co-op has close to 300 registered drivers.

Anyone with a valid driver’s license can join the co-op by purchasing refundable membership shares. The co-op is affiliated with Vancouver-based Modo car share. Modo members can register for free as “roaming” members on the Sunshine Coast, and Coast Car Co-op members can register with Modo for access to more than 800 Modo vehicles in Metro Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, and Kelowna. Modo currently maintains two vehicles in Horseshoe Bay and one at Langdale.

Coast Car Co-op’s current fleet is two sedans (one hybrid), two Ford Ranger pickup trucks, and a seven-seat van.
