Also, here's what's happening for Halloween this weekend

Seats at the community hall were filled for the Oct. 22 Pender Harbour and Area Residents Association Town Hall meeting.

The town hall hosted by Pender Harbour Area Residents Association (PHARA) last Sunday was standing room only. This hardworking volunteer group, the voice of our community, addresses multiple issues directly affecting all residents. Now is the time for all of us to support the excellent work of PHARA, signup as a member and volunteer. Visit their website to do so and read all the updates on the projects. The info provided is a “need to know” for all who reside here. www.phara.ca.

The Pender Harbour Garden Club’s guest speaker at the Oct. 30 meeting Rob Haines, a Coaster, has worked for 40 years in the aquaculture industry developing land based growing systems. His talk on Oct. 30 will be about the challenges and successes of beekeeping on the Sunshine Coast and about preserving and processing the food that you grow in the numerous ways. Meeting is 1 to 3 p.m. at the School of Music. Tea and goodies included. $5 drop in.

The Pender Harbour Blues Society 13th Annual Halloween Howl with Joe Rotundo and the Interstellar Riders is this Saturday, Oct. 28. Tickets, $30 (if any are still available), at Earthfair Store and online at www.phblues.ca. Prizes for best costumes. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. music at 8: p.m. at the Community Hall.

The Pender Harbour Food Bank plays a crucial role in our community by providing essential support to more than 200 families and individuals in need. In these challenging times, their services are more critical than ever. That is why the Rotary Club of Pender Harbour is committing the proceeds from both the October and November activities to support their mission. Buy your tickets at penderharbourrotary.rafflenexus.com or Google Pender Harbour Rotary Club.

Annual Halloween Fireworks brought to you by our Pender Harbour Volunteer Fire department will spark up at 7:30 p.m. at Millennium Park, All Hallows Eve. Enjoyable as they are for humans of all ages, they are the fear riddled opposite for pets and wildlife. Keep pets in a secure environment, and you can use peaceful music to mask some of the fireworks’ sound. Other aids to calm that I have found successful, Adaptil products (pheromone based) and Hemp for Tails, wonderful Kelowna company CBD tinctures and treats. These products are generally available at Best Friends in Sechelt (and online but not in time for the 31st).
