Spring has sprung and I am grateful to see more local events popping up on the calendar for Halfmoon Bay.
The Halfmoon Bay Nursery is hosting a Spring Market and Plant Sale this Saturday, March 22 at 7820 Fawn Road (if you buy two plants you get the third free)! The market, in partnership with One Straw Society, includes wonderful local vendors offering locally made food, beverages, art, herb craft, leathercraft, seeds and seedings. This event will run from 11 a.m. ‘til 3 p.m., be sure to stop by.
In community fitness, Mary Shaw and Amy Lang continue to run the Fitness Boot Camp on Saturday mornings. Mary has expanded her local programs and just introduced a new class “Dumbbells & Downdogs” on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. A mix of strength and stretch, pre-registration is required. Her Slow Flow Yoga classes continue Thursdays at 4 p.m., all classes at Coopers Green Hall. More information on all her offerings is available at movewithmary.ca.
The Saturday Jam continues with organizers wanting to remind locals that this weekly jam is open to all musicians and spectators alike. Everybody is welcome. Bring your shakers, your voice, or just your appreciation and enthusiasm. Come down to Coopers Green Hall on Saturdays from 7 to 9 p.m. to participate.
We are one week away from the second annual Fishing Derby at Coopers Green this March 29, from dawn until 2 p.m. Entry fee is $50. There are prizes including $750 for the largest salmon with the weigh-in at Coopers Green Park at 2 p.m., one fish per entry. There will be additional prizes and a BBQ after. Donations will go to local environment projects. Come out to Coopers Green and cheer on the contestants and enjoy the event with your neighbours. Contact Travis Campbell at [email protected] with the subject line “Derby 2025” for more information.
Another exciting event coming up next weekend is the Follow the Light Art Market hosted by our very own Chelsea Staver of CBR Photography. She is running a sold-out photography camp for local kids over spring break, teaching her students to make art out of moments, to follow the light and how as an artist you don’t take pictures, you make them. Chelsea and her students will host an amazing market open to the public to wrap up the camp. Bring loonies, toonies and small bills to support these young artists. Throughout the camp they will learn and hone their photography skills and from this work they will be making up framed prints, cards, bookmarks, keychains and more. Chelsea will also have art on display for sale. The Art Market at 5643 O’Brian Road will run from 1 to 3 p.m. March 28.
