Hello Halfmoon Bay/ Xwilkway!
Looks like the sun might be out this week, a perfect time to think about water, wait, not water meters, but fun on the water. Grab your swim suit, PFD (safety first), paddleboard, kayak, gigantic flamingo floaty or any other floaty you have, and take a dip in our very own Trout Lake. The lake gets busy this time of year, but launching yourself off the jumping rock will make your inner 10-year-old self feel very happy.
Speaking of water, construction has begun on a new replacement watermain that will be installed on the sea bed between Wescan Road and the Sans Souci boat launch in Secret Cove. Construction is expected to last roughly six weeks until late August. During construction, the Sans Souci boat launch will be inaccessable. There will a new water line floated out into the cove and laid along the marine bed. This portion of construction is planned for between July 4 to 22.
If you haven’t been over to Thormanby Island and visited the beautiful white sandy beach, “The Gap,” you are in for a treat. It’s a summer tradition for many Sunshine Coasters and a perfect place to take those out of town guests. Pack a lunch, and bring all your beach necesseties and make a day of it. There are two water taxi companies offering taxi service to Thormanby and other neighbouriing islands. Its only a 10-minute boat ride by taxi and if you are lucky, you might see some sea life including whales. The water taxis fill up fast so reservations are needed. You can catch a water taxi from the Secret Cove Government dock with Thormanby Transportation 604-885-1212, and also from Buccaneer Marina with Buccaneer Water Taxi 604-885-7888
If you are in Secret Cove, why not stop by Secret Cove Marina. The new owners, Andreas and Kendra Tize, have been busy making some big changes to the marina including a new rentable four-bedroom floating lodge. There new website has lots of great info about the marina and sevices, and information about getting out on the water. www.secretcovemarina.com After a two-year hiatus, the Upper Deck Floating Restaurant at the marina is back and better than ever. I met the new proprietors Adam Pegg and Karen Lazzaro last week and they super excited to be offering a fantastic Italian cusine-based menu along with an exceptional cocktail and wine list to match. Stop by and say hi, and have a “Prosecco on the decko.”
