Hi everyone! Happy December! Hope you all had a wonderful week. At the time of writing this column, Environment Canada had issued a snowfall warning so hopefully everyone was safe and warm out there.
The Neighbours Helping Neighbours fundraising campaign organized by the Halfmoon Bay Community Association (HBCA) is off to a great start with some generous donations so far. With the goal being $12,000, there still is a ways to go. As we are trying to manage and cope with the inflated prices of many food items ($6.99 for a head of lettuce?!) and basic cost of living, there are some in our community that have extra challenges during the year and especially during the holiday season. The funds donated will help provide a daily breakfast for the students at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School throughout the school year, basic need boxes for youth and holiday hampers for families. This year, the campaign will reach even further to help seniors in our community that may need some extra help and added seasonal cheer. Please consider donating as much or as little as you can as soon as you can. Visit the HBCA Fundraising page at halfmoon-bay.ca/donate. There are three options to donate; eTransfer, cash/cheque, online payment via credit card. There is also a GoFundMe option on the Halfmoon Bay BC Everything Facebook page. Your generous donation is greatly appreciated and will help so many in our community!
Lots of reminders this week. The Halfmoon Bay Elementary School will be holding their annual Kids Christmas Shopping Day on Thursday, Dec. 8. If you have some gently used items, please drop off at the front of the school every school day before 2:30 p.m. Gift bags are very much needed!
The HMB Holiday Market at the school is on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a Vendor Village (community vendors), Kids Craft Fair, hot chocolate, live painting, a Giftbag Contest, Santa’s Workshop and the Pizza Truck! For all the details, visit their website at hmbholidaymarket.ca.
The first annual Winter Market hosted by the Halfmoon Bay Nursery located at 7820 Fawn Rd is on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be plenty of local vendors offering a wide variety of items and creations. It will be a great place to do your Christmas shopping.
The 2022 Halfmoon Bay Sail Pass organized by John and Lynn Smith of Hiballer Marine Ltd is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17, weather permitting. Last year, there were a few energetic and enthusiastic participants all ready to go with their decorated boats but strong winds and rough seas caused the event to be cancelled. Let’s hope this year Mother Nature will be a little less cranky and offer a beautiful afternoon/evening for the Sail Pass. If you would like to participate with your decorated boat, please email Lynn at [email protected] as soon as possible.
