Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. As we move closer to December and possibly some inclement weather, will we be ready for another white Christmas?

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association (HBCA) has launched their annual holiday fundraiser – Neighbours Helping Neighbours. Funds from this campaign will continue to help the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School provide a daily breakfast for the students, Grab & Go lunches and snacks, boxes for youth and hampers for families in the community. This year the outreach will extend beyond families of the school to any community member who finds themselves in need of some extra help and cheer this holiday season. If you would like to nominate a recipient (your neighbour, a senior or your own family) for a Holiday Hamper, send an email to Wendy White at [email protected] by Nov. 25 or call 604-551-8461. Please know that this program is strictly confidential.

Last year, the target for the holiday fundraiser was $10,000, which was exceeded significantly. The goal this year is $12,000 to help with the extended outreach along with continued support for the school and the community throughout the coming year. If you would like to donate, visit the HBCA fundraising page at halfmoon-bay.ca/donate. There are three options to donate: eTransfer, cash/cheque and online payment via credit card. A GoFundMe has been created on the Halfmoon Bay BC Everything Facebook page as well. Your generous donation is greatly appreciated and will help so many in our community.

The Halfmoon Bay Elementary School will be holding their annual Kids Christmas Shopping Day on Thursday, Dec. 8. It’s a day of good cheer and kids helping kids. The school’s Student Council will once again be hosting this very special day where kids can shop for their immediate family members. In preparation, the coordinators and volunteers are looking for donations of gently used items that kids could wrap and give to their family members. Candles, soaps, scarves for moms, fishing gear, tools, outdoor equipment for dads and toys, clothing, books for siblings. Gift bags are also a must have and very much needed! Donations can be dropped off at the front of the school every school day before 2:30 p.m. For more information please send an email to Wendy at [email protected]

The Kid-Preneur Club presents the HMB Holiday Market on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Kid-Preneur Club is a group of very motivated self-employed students from the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School. They meet at recess and lunch to plan, learn and create. These kids are working with an amazing volunteer event coordinator who is taking care of all the fine details for the event. There will be a Vendor Village (community vendors), Kids Craft Fair, hot chocolate, live painting, a Giftbag Contest, Santa’s Workshop and the Pizza Truck! Join the fun at this free family event at the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School. Visit their website at hmbholidaymarket.ca for all the details.

The Halfmoon Bay Nursery at 7820 Fawn Rd is holding its first annual Winter Market on Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Be sure to stop by and visit local vendors with their many holiday gift items and creations along with a wide variety of goodies to munch on or purchase for gifts. If you would like to participate as a vendor, please contact Michelle at [email protected].

Mark your calendars for a very special event coming up in mid-December. The 2022 Halfmoon Bay Sail Pass is being organized once again by John and Lynn Smith and hoping that Mother Nature will cooperate this year. The scheduled date is Saturday, Dec. 17 or possibly Sunday, Dec. 18, either day if the weather permits. Stay tuned for more details closer to the date. If you would like to participate with your decorated boat, please email Lynn at [email protected] as soon as possible.

If you have any ideas for column content or have a community event or story you would like to share, please send ideas and suggestions to [email protected]

Be safe, be gentle, and always be kind.
