We have big news for fans of live music this month. On Thursday, April 10, Jack Garton and The Secret Beach will be playing a show at Coopers Green, proudly sponsored by HBCA. Galiano Island-based Jack Garton is a multi-instrumentalist and song writer known for his unique combination of trumpet and accordion playing, and for this storytelling that expresses his love of life’s beautiful imperfections. Recently Juno nominated, The Secret Beach is as an ever-shifting group of musicians orbiting around the sons of Michah Erenberg. They will be touring their new album, We Were Born Here, What’s Your Excuse? described as “a generous helping of warm, well-crafted pop songs that will make it tricky to keep this secret for very long.” Micah and Jack will each be playing a set and collaborating with each other throughout the show. Doors are at 6:30 with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 dollars and there will be a cash bar. Tickets available through the event link on Facebook and Eventbrite. Thank you to Amanda-Rae and Chris Hergesheimer for their enthusiasm and information regarding this event. This will be a one-of-a-kind event for Halfmoon Bay.

I followed up with Chelsea of CBR Photography to see how her Follow the Light Kids Photography Camp and Market went over spring break and was thrilled to hear it was a huge success for participants and patrons alike. This was the fifth time running the camp, when asked how it went, she stated, “and I’m always amazed by how they take my guidance and soar. I teach them that while anyone can snap a photo, we’re focused on making ART.” While I was unable to attend last Friday’s market, I was lucky enough to take home some original pieces from these young artists. Chelsea tells me she is already brainstorming for Spring 2026 and considering a summer session and a photography retreat for adults. You can see her daily recaps from the camp on her socials and stay tuned for updates at www.cbr photography.ca.

We are less than a month away from Halfmoon Bay Elementary’s annual carnival event on May 2, from 5 to 7:30 p.m., this year with a Western theme. This event is an important fundraiser hosted by HMB PAC. Funds raised will be used to provide funding and resources for students at Halfmoon Bay Elementary. A representative let me know that their immediate need is more volunteers. These events rely heavily on volunteer efforts and if you are able you can sign up online at the following link: volunteersignup.org/WT4K4.
