Travis Campbell ([email protected]) is hosting a Salmon Derby on Saturday, March 23, from dawn until 3 p.m. Fishing will take place at Boundaries Quarry Bay, Epson Point and Gower Point, with weigh-in at Coopers Green Park at the 3 p.m. deadline. There will be prizes ($500 to the winner!) and a BBQ. Travis tells me, “The sponsors have been very generous donating prizes. With the salmon season closing on April 1, I thought an early year derby would be fun! Donations will help out the Pacific Salmon Foundation.” Entry fee is $50; tickets are available at Source for Sports, Lighthouse Marine, Buccaneer Marina and the Bitter End Boaters Exchange. Don’t fish? Come out to Coopers Green and cheer on the contestants!
Did you know that the Halfmoon Bay Fire Department is sending a team to participate in the Climb the Wall challenge in support of the BC Lung Foundation at the Sheraton Wall Centre on Sunday, March 24? Firefighters will be climbing the 48 floors (739 stairs) in full gear and self-contained breathing apparatus. Help your HMB team support the BC Lung Foundation – go to www.bclung.ca. Search team “Halfmoon Bay Fire Department,” and make your much appreciated donation. They are at 61 per cent of their goal; there’s still time to ensure they achieve 100 per cent. The funds raised will be dedicated to sending BC kids to asthma camps. “On behalf of all of us at Halfmoon Bay Fire Department, we want to thank all of our community members for the ongoing and continued support you have shown us through the years,” wrote Arthur Kartz.
The Halfmoon Bay Childcare Centre “is looking to hire an energetic, creative, and thoughtful qualified ECE with a sense of humour to join our enthusiastic, friendly team.” If you are that person, reach out to Jenn at [email protected].
Friday night is pizza night! From 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Reggie is cooking up made-to-order pizzas (12” medium pizzas, gluten-free and vegan options available). Pickup only. Call or text 604-902-5512 to pre-order or come on by 8927 Redrooffs.
I hear Dollar Days at the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary are temporarily on hold due to a decrease in donations. If you’re like me, you’re in spring declutter mode! Bring your “gently used but with lots of life still left in them” items (like many of us!) to the Cowrie Thrift Store any day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Money raised is donated back to the community!
Just a reminder to send along your news and personal stories and I’ll feature them in my column ([email protected]).
