Also, still time to sponsor school students in their read-a-thon

Sarah Noni, Aristazabal Hawkes and Kiki Connelly perform an intimate musical collaboration at MudMoon Studio.

It’s been a year since I began regaling you with news of local Happenings, interspersed with my ponderings on life. It has been (and still is!) an incredible learning experience and, along the way, I’ve made many friends. Thank you wholeheartedly for your feedback telling me that I’ve inspired you to volunteer, donate, shop local or that my personal experiences have resonated with you. Your emails and kind words exchanged when our paths cross shine light on my entire day.

In my first column, I invited you to attend the Halfmoon Bay Nursery’s March 2023 Spring Market. Well, here we are again! Save the date – Saturday, March 16, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Featured are familiar food (West Coast Nibbles, Reggie’s Pizza), beverage (Bruinwood) and artistic vendors, and once again, the One Straw Society will be there to promote Seedy Saturday (onestraw.ca/seeds-of-march/). Want to be a vendor? Contact Michelle at [email protected]

In my 2024 “Love” column, I mentioned that local fitness gal Kristin McCarthy would be expanding her classes. Beginning on March 18, evening classes will take place in her “little home gym” at 5:45 p.m. on Mondays (full body circuit) and Thursdays (strength). “The focus is on resistance training which has multiple life benefits, including lifting groceries and kids, and improves bone health and muscle mass which is important as we age!” Contact Kristin at [email protected]

The Halfmoon Bay Chatelech Community School Association (HMBCCSA) Read-a-thon got under way on March 9. You can find sponsor sign-up sheets at the Welcome Woods Market and Sechelt’s Moorestock Mini. Donate cash on the spot or sign up and you’ll get a reminder email to send along your donation. You can contact Wendy White at [email protected] or Lindsey Reeve at [email protected] prior to, or any time during, the event. You have until March 31 to sponsor our local kiddos to read, read and read some more!

And once you’re finished with all that reading, why not sign up for Chelsea’s “Follow the Light” photography camp?! Running from March 25 to 29, youth ages six to 12 will learn how to use a camera, take some fun dress-up portraits and, on the last day, their favourite pieces will be available for purchase at their “market.” Chelsea is “always blown away at what they create.” Go to cbrphotography.ca/ftl-kids-camp for camp information.

Last weekend, the MudMoon Studio held an “open studio party.” Showcased was a new band of “wildly wonderful and talented women” (according to Kiki Connelly, band member). Area B director Justine Gabias held another successful “coffee and conversation.” Chris Hergesheimer posted that he’s “still riding the vibes” and recently told me that he hopes to hold a few more special and unique events in this space!

Just a reminder – local non-profits, vendors, and residents – send along your news and I’ll feature it in my column ([email protected]). It’ll save me trolling Facebook, lol.

Here’s to another year!
