Also, get ready for Turbofest – June 27 to 30
roberts creek-COLUMN

Greetings Creekers.

My the week flies by quickly. It seems like only yesterday that I was writing last week’s column. This one will just be a quick review of what’s coming up over the next couple of weeks as I won’t be around to write the column.

At the Legion this weekend: Friday night––Poppa Greg Joe. Saturday night––Tippy Agogo and the Jeevious Family

June is Pride Month and there are pride events everywhere. Next weekend, Pride comes to Roberts Creek with two big events at the Hall. On Friday, June 21, Sunshine Coast Community Services Youth Services will present a Youth Pride Dance. This is a free event, open to ages 12 and older, that will run from 6 to 10 p.m. There will be a DJ, makeup artists, a photobooth and a dinner provided. What a wonderful way for our young people to get together to honour and celebrate themselves and their friends.

Then on Saturday, it’s the adults’ turn for a Sunshine Coast Pride Dance with Buzzy Bee and Little D to keep you dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Before that though, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., Emily Mae will be teaching line dancing! It all sounds like fun and I bet the Hall will be packed. Tickets are $25 at the door, on a sliding scale.

Earlier in the day, down in the Heart of the Creek, there will be a summer festival. Samir will be there with his yummy hot dogs and Little Spoon Ice Cream will be scooping. There will be face painting, tarot readings, yoga and it will culminate with a Gumboot Cafe Games Night, from 6 to 8 p.m. So, if you want, you can do it all and still get up to the hall for the Pride Dance.

The other big event that will be happening while I am away is Turbofest. It is year two for this music and comedy festival and some of Canada’s best underground bands and comedians will be attending. Daytime shows will be in Gibsons at Brewhouse 101 and One Foot Crow, with the three evening shows taking place in the Creek at the Legion. Weekend passes are available and single event tickets. For information go to turbofest2024.tikit.ca.

Thats all I have the time for but I’ll be back at in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I hope you all have a lovely summer solstice. Not too hot but warm enough to go swimming, have picnics and long cool drinks.
